My wife, Monica Hewitt, is a 43-year-old woman struggling with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and severe emphysema. Her condition has progressed and a lung transplant is now Monica’s only hope for survival, as well as a better quality of life. Without a lifesaving lung transplant, Monica will continue to rely on full-time oxygen and eventually won’t be able to breathe on her own. Monica is suffering, and she desperately needs your help.
The loving mother of our two amazing children, Monica is the love of my life and my best friend. We recently celebrated our twenty-fourth wedding anniversary, and we look forward to spending many more years together. Monica is the heart and soul of our family, and each day we pray she receives the telephone call that will save her life. More than ever, Monica wants to undergo a successful lung transplant, and be able to one day have the opportunity to meet her grandchildren.
Transplants are lifesaving, but the cost to fund this lifesaving procedure is monumental. Monica is facing overwhelming out-of-pocket medical expenses related to transplant, including co-pays and deductibles, health insurance premiums, caregiver fees, medical appointments, and laboratory costs. She is also required to take costly post-transplant, anti-rejection medications that Monica will need for the rest of her life. She must also temporarily move closer to the transplant center, and the costs of relocation and lodging are very high; much more than Monica can handle on her own.
To help with the financial burden of Monica’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in her honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the South-Atlantic Lung Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider a contribution. For credit card contributions, click on DONATE NOW or call 800.642.8399.
Thank you for your generosity, love and support. Every contribution is greatly appreciated and is a step forward for Monica. Please follow Monica’s campaign at www.helphopelive.org.
Gratefully,
Dewayne Hewitt Jr., Monica’s loving spouse,
