Agaton Barroga Jr. has been a supportive father to his three daughters and my loving husband for twenty-six years. He has been diagnosed with end-stage renal failure and severe anemia and is in need of a lifesaving kidney transplant. Now he seeks the support of others in making this happen.
A few years ago, Agaton’s doctor diagnosed him with high blood pressure. However, he still continued to work tirelessly to support his family. After years of taking medications in an attempt to control it, his high blood pressure started slowing him down. Ultimately, it has led to anemia and caused his kidneys to fail. Agaton or “Junior”, as most of his friends and family call him, goes to renal dialysis three times a week; it exhausts him. He looks forward to a time when he feels healthy again and plans on spending more time with his family.
Although a kidney donor has not been found yet, his family is very hopeful in finding one soon. This process has brought with it a mix of emotions. Once Agaton receives this gift of life, it will be a joyous occasion but an overwhelming time as well. There will be an astronomical amount of medical expenses ahead not covered by insurance that include the anti-rejection medication he will need to take for the rest of his life, numerous hospital visits, and relocating for him and his caregiver to O’ahu from the Big Island. These costs will quickly add up to more than Junior and his family can handle.
To help with the financial burden of Agaton Barroga Jr.’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in his honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Southwest Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please, consider a contribution.
