At the young age of 24, Parmjit Kaur, known by friends and family as Pam, was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), a typically progressive disease involving damage to the sheaths of nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.Symptoms may include numbness, impairment of speech and muscular coordination, blurred vision, and severe fatigue. As a result of her condition, Pam is no longer able to run, spend time with friends outdoors on Summer days, or walk long distances. For a number of years Pam tried various medications to treat her MS, all of which had adverse reactions and made her extremely sick. The medications caused her to have ongoing fevers, severe hair loss, and a myriad of other symptoms. When the medications started to alter her typically cheery personality, Pam had to make the difficult decision to stop taking medication and look for alternative treatments to preserve her quality of life. It was then she learned about a life-saving treatment that has proved promising to the MS Community, known as Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation, or HSCT.
Pam grew up in Linden, New Jersey and her peers and friends have always known her to be a strong, resilient woman with a heart of gold. Pam is always willing to help out those in need, sometimes giving her last bit of energy to help those less fortunate. Unfortunately, this time it is Pam that is in need. MS is a volatile disease with many unknowns. Without knowing the course that the disease could take, Pam’s treatment options have run out, and her only hope for a bright future is to undergo HSCT treatments in the near future.
The cost of HSCT treatment is very expensive and will cost upwards of $50,000. Pam’s health insurance will not cover her treatment as it is being sought overseas. As a result, Pam is facing very high out-of-pocket medical expenses including the cost of the procedure, travel, lodging, meal fees, and post-transplant medications. Pam is also required to undergo both pre and post-transplant testing, to ensure the HSCT treatments are working efficiently.
To help with the financial burden of Pam’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in her honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Mid-Atlantic Stem Cell Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider a contribution. For credit card contributions, please select the Donate Now button on this page or call 800.642.8399
Your support is critical to the overall success of Pam’s struggle. Please know that your contribution counts. On behalf of Pam and her family, we thank you in advance for your kind consideration.
Gratefully,

Hello, everyone! I realize I haven't posted an update in a while and for that I apologize!
As I write this, my right hand is having trouble typing as muscles in my hand fall weak from exhaustion and overuse. Every day is a reminder of why I need this treatment so badly. I am desperately hoping to have this treatment done before I get worse.
I want to take this time to thank everyone that has been supportive and donated to my cause. I am so appreciative of you! May you be blessed the way you have blessed me! Your kindness will not go unnoticed. THANK YOU!
