Dear family and friends,
Josh Delozier was born with a rare genetic blood disorder, hemochromatosis, for which there is no cure. Hemochromatosis deposits iron on ones organs, essentially killing them. Unfortunately, Josh was misdiagnosed for years and his health deteriorated significantly in the months preceding his correct diagnosis and transplants.
On June 22, 2012 Josh received a heart and liver transplant. His healing process is a slow one which has been difficult with several setbacks. Josh has a brain infection called Nocardia due to the low immune system he now lives with. This infection will take a couple of years to heal. He has been diagnosed with Type I Diabetes as the hemochromatosis has attacked his pancreas rendering it incapable of producing insulin. However, Josh works hard each and every day towards regaining his strength.
Josh and I are incredibly grateful for his second chance at life that God provided through a precious donor. Josh spent 84 days in the hospital awaiting transplant and healing enough to go home. He then spent a couple of months in Houston until he was permitted to travel home. Since being home in September, Josh has spent days and weeks at a time in the hospital due to complications of one sort or another. He spent nearly half the last year in the hospital.
Although Josh has insurance, there are many uninsured expenses associated with transplantation, such as insurance co-pays, costly medications (to be taken for life), transportation expenses for follow-up appointments, as well as the expenses incurred while hospitalized. The support of family and friends is vital for Josh’s successful recovery!
To help alleviate the financial burden, a fundraising campaign in Josh’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive (formerly NTAF), a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for nearly 30 years. All donations are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the South-Central Heart/Liver Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Your contribution is greatly appreciated.
