Joe is the wonderful son of Pat and Meg Barber, grandson, brother, cousin and good friend to many. He is kind, gentle and has a generous spirit. Prior to the accident, Joe was an active high school student. He played just about every sport you can image, sang in his high school and church choir, was a certified lifeguard and was awarded Eagle Scout status the month before his accident. He was a member of the Daniel Hand High School football team and Cheshire Rugby Club.
After spending a month in the ICU, Joe underwent four months of acute rehabilitation at Craig Rehabilitation Hospital in Denver, CO, where, despite setbacks, he worked hard every day to make as much recovery as possible. After returning home, he completed his senior year of high school, and is now a sophomore at Southern Connecticut State University. Joe’s goals are to graduate, live a full, productive, and independent life, while hoping for a cure.
The Barbers are facing many ongoing expenses related to Joe’s injury that aren’t reimbursed by insurance. Joe will requires specialized adaptive equipment, intensive rehabilitation therapy and full time care. Any support you would like to give will be greatly appreciated.
To help with the financial burden of Joe’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in his honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Northeast Spinal Cord Injury Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for injury-related expenses only. To make a tax-deductible donation to this fundraising campaign, click on the Donate Now button.
Please check Joe’s campaign page regularly to follow Joe’s progress, send him messages, and learn about upcoming fundraising. To help with fundraising, contact Lydia Williams Keller at [email protected] or 203-435-4615.
Joe, Pat, Meg and their families would like to thank you for your ongoing kindness, generosity, support and prayers.

Keep up the good fight! It's been really great seeing the messages and updates since the start of the Pledge campaign, always willing to help even if it's only a small something but I've been passing the word around. All the best for Joe!

On behalf of the Sonic Stadium and friends of Johnny Gioeli in the UK, we wish Joe all the best!

It is unacceptable and disgusting that a company who literally is meant to be the exception/white knight in the sea of corporate harassment today in both the music AND in the entertainment industry as a whole, that we find out about these unfortunate news. Best of luck, Johnny! And prayers to Joe! Keep rockin' on!

Pledge Music was a wonderful thing but what they did was unforgivable. Especially to campaigns like this where you have people helping people. Keep Rockin Joe!
Shane Yamamoto
What pledge music did with the funds from Johnny Gioeli's One Voice campaign was absolutely disgusting. I'm giving this in the hope that those of us who supported the campaign can still help Joe in some way, even if it's not what it should have been. Hope your rehab goes well, Joe, and that we can collect enough money as a community to make a difference to you

Hi Joe
It really made me upset when I found out the money that was put towards the Pledge Music Campaign was never given to you or contributed to the One Voice Album. During the campaign I donated $500 to the pledge originally but I canceled the payment and felt really bad about it. I'm glad now that I didn't donate the $500 originally because it would have not been for a good cause. I really hope this helps.

I didn't contribute to the original One Voice campaign but I did buy the One Voice album on iTunes when it came out but after what happened recently I wanted to help out a little where I didn't before. Hope we all can make up for what was lost from before.

Just read the awful news from Johnny Gioeli about Pledge Music and therefore all the donations through the One Voice project/cd. I hope you get the support you need Joe and greetings from the UK! Really sorry for Johnny that all the hard work and fantastic intentions haven't been rewarded as they deserve but hope some good still comes from this. Best wishes to all. Jay

Johnny, I pledged to the "One Voice" campaign because my daughter Serena and I admire your talent, respect your spirit and believe in you. Your love for Joe is apparent in every update and effort. It's unfortunate that things took the turn they did, but I'm donating again because the cause is still the cause. Best to Joe and his family!
Matthew Ahlborn
Sorry to hear what happened with PledgeMusic. Wish you guys all the best!

Johnny Gioeli sent me. Good Luck Joe!
Ryan Whatley
One Voice went beyond its intended purpose and brought people together to support a meaningful cause. What Pledge Music has done is outrageous and they will get what's coming to them, but I pray your situation gets resolved as soon as possible.
In the meantime, I hope this donation will help out somehow. Thank you for all that you do and for taking a stand!
To Joe Barber!

We can't believe that there are people who do something like this. That's a shame, we don't have words for it. We hope these people can be sued. Best wishes for you Joe.

Shocked and devastated to find out what Pledge Music has done. Completely unacceptable and unfair! I think this was roughly the amount I donated before, so I'm donating the same amount again. Wishing Joe all the best, and I hope this helps in some way!
