In 2001, my mother, Kathleen “Kay” Harvard was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver. She is now in end stage liver failure and her doctors at Allegheny General Hospital have told us that her only option is a life-saving liver transplant. She is determined and has the strength to preserve thru this latest obstacle in her life.
Mom is the loving wife of Howard, wonderful mother to four, and good friend to many. Sadly, due to her poor health she is no longer able to do so much of what we all take for granted. An incredibly energetic woman who was always “on the go” she now experiences many episodes of confusion, disorientation, and personality changes due to the buildup of toxins in her liver. Even on a very restricted diet, every day is a struggle.
As you can imagine, the medical expenses she has are astronomic. Even with insurance there are many expenses that must be paid out of pocket. Some of these are copays, deductibles, current medications, trips to her many medical appointments and Mom will be on a life-time of very expensive anti-rejection medications. This is where your help is desperately needed.
A fundraising campaign in Mom’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community- based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Mid-Atlantic Liver Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Often, Mom will take on the burden left by others, helping to coach them through hard times even when she had little or nothing to offer but comforting words. Now it is her turn. Kay needs “us”. Your support and prayers are greatly appreciated and will help aid in the recovery of Kay’s life. Every contribution counts no matter how big or how small. On behalf of our family we thank you dearly for your kindness, support, generosity and prayers.
