It’s been a little over a year since our friend, Hans Schulze, was injured in a bicycle accident which left him a quadriplegic. Hans has made good progress, but still has a long road ahead of him. His upper body mobility and strength have improved although portions of his arms and hands lack sensation of touch and his hands cannot open completely. His lower torso remains completely paralyzed but gets constant attention from exercise equipment and hands-on manipulation. Hans’ remains positive and is determined to make as much progress as possible.
Your ongoing support and contributions in honor of Hans to Help Hope Live have enabled him to continue with his rehabilitation therapy. He has been able to take advantage of the expert rehabilitation offered at The Peak Center at Craig Hospital where one-on-one training, employing cutting edge technology and exercise equipment is used to maximize Hans’ quality of life and neurological recovery. The goal is to regenerate the ability for his arms and legs to regain some mobility.
The fundraising campaign also allowed Hans to purchase a modified van equipped with a power-assist ramp which allows Hans to attend doctor’s appointments and rehabilitation sessions, while at the same time, giving him a modicum of independence. Hans was recently measured for hand controls and his hope is to be driving by the end of the year! Technology is truly amazing.
Hans and Roseanne have sold their townhome and are currently renting a handicapped accessible apartment closer to Craig Hospital. They are looking for a new home, which has proved difficult in Denver’s tight housing market. They refer to this time in their life as their “new normal” and still enjoy the outdoors and spending time with their family and friends.
As you can imagine, Hans continues to have many uninsured injury-related expenses. To help continue to offset these expenses, a fundraising campaign in Hans’ honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law, are held by Help Hope Live in the Midwest/West Spinal Cord Injury Fund, and are administered by Help Hope Live for injury-related expenses only. Please consider making a contribution and click the DONATE NOW bar.
On behalf of Hans, Roseanne and their family, thank you for your ongoing kindness, generosity and support.
