On August 11, 2015, Daphne’s life took an unexpected turn when she suffered a spinal cord injury while working in her backyard. The injury has left her without the ability to use her arms and legs. Daphne spent seven weeks in the hospital and inpatient rehab and is now working hard in outpatient therapy. We are finding that even though Daphne has insurance, many of the things that are needed are not covered by insurance.
At the time of her accident, Daphne was entering her senior year of college and had planned to graduate with an accounting degree in May, 2016. Her goal is to go back to college as soon as possible and complete her degree. Daphne is hoping that she will be able to continue her education and eventually become a CPA. Daphne’s faith throughout this journey has not wavered and she has been an inspiration to everyone that she meets — she is determined to make the most of her life and regain as much mobility and independence as possible.
Even with insurance, Daphne faces many uninsured injury-related expenses such as: home modifications to provide a bedroom and bathroom on the ground level, additional rehab such as electrical stimulation to help with muscle tone and spasms, specialized exercise equipment, environmental control and assistive devices in addition to the usual co-pays and deductibles.
To help with the financial burden of Daphne’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in her honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the South-Atlantic Spinal Cord Injury Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELIve for injury-related expenses only. Please consider making an end-of-year tax-deductible donation today and click the DONATE NOW button.
Thank you for your support and prayers for Daphne — they are greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Daryl and Lisa Sykes
