Jeffrey Scott is a truly remarkable 36-year-old who has hit the biggest roadblock of his life. This July he was taken to the hospital where he was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. At this point, Jeff’s only chance of survival is a heart transplant, which his insurance will not cover for him. He and his family need our help to pay for some of the medical expenses related to this transplant.
Jeff is a loving husband and father of two amazing children, McKenzie (9) and Kasen (2). He served in the U.S. Army and after getting married, worked as a Corrections Officer for the State of Nevada for eight years. Jeff is the type of person who lights up a room and makes friends easily. You can call him in the middle of the night, stranded with car problems and he will be there to help you fix it.
A heart transplant and the care needed afterwards are extremely expensive, especially with limited insurance. Since Jeff can’t work and his wife has been home a lot to care for him, things have been financially difficult. Jeff and his family are facing very high medical expenses, including travel to and from the transplant center, co-pays and deductibles, and the costly medications he will have to take for the rest of his life.
To help with the financial burden of Jeff’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in his honor has been established with HelpHOPELive. To make a tax-deductible donation, click Donate Now.
Together we can make a big difference in the life of this beautiful family! Please know that any contribution is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your prayers and support. Look for updates on fundraising events on this HelpHOPELive campaign page.
With sincere gratitude,
Melanie Ramirez, Jeff’s sister
So Jeff & Tiffany have officially been approved for the apartment they applied for in SLC! Woohoo! Now they are in Las Vegas packing their stuff and getting their kids! Yes!!!! They finally get to be reunited as a family :) We are so happy about this, it has been really tough for them all to be apart.
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO CAME TO CHILI'S LAST TUESDAY! You're probably all wondering how the fundraiser at Chili's went... Well, I don't know. I talked to the manager & he said they send the numbers to corporate, then corporate sends a check to helpHopelive, and it's about a 2 week process. I have asked him to send me the numbers that were sent to corporate, still waiting for a response. IT'S KILLING ME! I'M SO ANXIOUS TO FIND OUT.. Kilgore is a small town, so I'm not expecting a HUGE amount, but I know all of Erik's coworkers came from Henderson & they hit up all their contacts, a few people from church came, and a few of my workout buddies. APPRECIATE YOU ALL! THANK YOU!
Thoughts, Prayers, and Good Vibes requested for Jeff and his
Jeff Status Update: His Mental Status= Tired but Happy. Physical Status= Some aches and creaks, in lots of pain but still ALIVE FOLKS!
He appreciates all the love, good vibes, etc. He'd tell you himself but he's upgrading his base with some sniper towers & machine guns on Boom Beach ( Thanks Matt Blout and Lindsay Blout for the Tablet and Game Suggestions. No sarcasm here. Its nice to watch him be interested in something besides The History Channel.)
Tomorrow is Jeff's birthday! (Apr 12) Send a surprise or card to:

OR donate to his campaign :) We are still trying to get him on the transplant list & would LOVE your support. Thank you!
GOD IS GREAT <3 Status Update: Jeff is doing great! He had the LVAD surgery today. Proof of Life & Location has been confirmed visually. He's sedated for comfort the first few hours afterwards. His "make ya feel pretty" juice bottle went set and respiratory did wake him up while I was in there. He's good!! He'll be woken up fully later tonight at shift change. Then they usually knock em out again. His heart rates is
So I was at Riverside Trade Days all day today selling jewelry and my neighbor's salsa to raise money for Jeff. There was one lady who donated a few dollars and a lucky penny. I almost lost it. I love lucky pennies! They are kind of my sign from God that he is sending me a little comfort & encouragement when I feel discouraged. This lady believes sort of the same thing - that when she finds a lucky penny, an angel is with her. So she gave me her "angel" today. I absolutely loved it :)
Jeff is in Salt Lake City! We are so grateful he got there safely & is in good hands at the Universty of Utah.
***** Update: THE CARDIAC DIRECTOR FOR NV MEDICAID APPROVED JEFF FOR AN LVAD: THIS IS A HUGE WIN & A GAME CHANGER FOR OUR FIGHT TO SAVE JEFF'S LIFE!!!
4 PAs for Jeff to get an LVAD are Approved: Different things go along with getting The Left Ventricular Assist Device.
Basically, I went around and over all Doctors & Nurses & Staff in AZ & Las Vegas, Case Management, Insurance Reps, etc and got Medicaid Admins to look into a few things for me. They sent the Prior Authorizations. Its unfortunate this battle took 8 months, over 30 Hospital Admissions/ER Visits, and fighting over 100 People just to get a piece of paper sent for My Best Friend & Love of My Life.
I just looked into what I knew to be true: LVAD Approval is a case by case basis, even if some longtime "Transplant Financial Coordinator" made a meaningless phone call checking coverage its possible to get it wrong, Our Appeal Rights were stolen from us, Las Vegas Medical People drunk the Koolaid AZ offered em- They believed AZ Sent PA that got Denied so didn't want to bother sending another but one was never sent, and I would not make their lack of caring, commonsense, and faith a standard I'd start living by.
We fought the system and won! Its possible! Miracles do happen! Never give up! Fight for what you believe in!
This Heart Journey is still just beginning. Yes, its been hard. We've walked through Hell more times than I care to remember but keep making it out because all of you helped push us through the fire. Thank you!!! We will continue & carry on.
Keep Making Your Moments Count Whenever Ya Can
Please help us relocate this family - I would really like to help my brother move to Utah where it is maybe possible to at least get on a transplant list. I wish I could be with him every day & help take care of my niece & nephew & give my sister-in-law a break... I want to spend every waking second asking people for change, $1, $5 - whatever! Although I know whatever happens, God loves us & will take care of us all - I still believe in miracles!!! And I want to fight this situation!!! My sister-in-law wrote today: " Nothing is happening. Hes still in the hospital. Still feels the same. They can't do much for him except say get heart transplant. No changes on any life fronts or outlets for anything medical or otherwise except diminished positive mental state speaking for myself (Tiffany). It all sucks. Enjoy every moment you can before there's no longer moments to enjoy." (Feeling helpless)
The most important thing I've been realizing through all of this is that God loves us all so much & He just wants us to support each other & love each other. Whether it's hugs, prayers, Christmas elves, or money - He just wants us to uplift each other as much as possible and believe in Him and trust Him. Thank you everyone for all you've done so far! Let's keep it up :)
We may not raise all the money we wish we could, but any amount we can will help this sweet family tremendously! There are expensive medical bills & the hope to move to a place where there are more possibilities. There are still two sweet children who need to eat and get to school and have as much precious time with their dad as possible.
I guess we have a plan to move Jeff to Utah. He might be able to get covered there for a heart transplant. Everyone please pray for this little family & help us relocate them if you can. THANK YOU
“We are surrounded by those in need of our attention, our encouragement, our support, our comfort, our kindness—be they family members, friends, acquaintances, or strangers. We are the Lord’s hands here upon the earth, with the mandate to serve and to lift His children. He is dependent upon each of us. …(Thomas S. Monson)

Back to Centennial Hospital. We were hoping this would be a quick trip to grab some antibiotics, but he's being admitted. Monday Nov 30 is his wife's 32nd Birthday & Tuesday December 1st is their 10 yr wedding anniversary. He's pretty upset he'll be celebrating in the hospital but we're happy he's alive! That's what matters! There is a possible infection where Jeff's ICD was put in. The ICD goes straight to his heart therefore he needs 24/7 observation to make sure the infection isn't getting worse. I think we need a home healthcare nurse who specializes in wound care and adhesive tape skin allergies. Dying from some infection would be ridiculous after fighting so hard to overcome everything else.
Jeff is home!!! He is now back on the milrinone drip 24/7 but through a port this time. It's a short term solution because this medicine is not so great longterm, but it's the only thing keeping him going. He got to be home for Thanksgiving and we are incredibly grateful for that. Their tradition is apple turkeys :) Jeff's turned out pretty cute!
Get to be with my brotherio! Playing Pirates of the Caribbean LIFE. Super fun. Although mom was a really ruthless pirate, Jeff won. The landlubber!
Praying for you.
