A Christmas Miracle

If you don’t know Lauren Arkens personally, let me tell you a bit about her and the journey she has been on. She is a wife and mother who has spent her life as a person with Cystic Fibrosis (CF), a progressive, genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections, extensive lung damage, and limits the ability to breathe over time. What most people don’t know is that this illness effects the pancreas as well, preventing the release of digestive enzymes that allow the body to break down food and absorb vital nutrients. In spite of this, Lauren was determined to lead as healthy and happy a life as possible.

Lauren & Tyler’s interview with HelpHopeLive:

September 27, 2016

From Lauren & Tyler, 9-14-16:

BIG day yesterday for #TeamArkens. Lauren had her transplant team follow up. Everything is going great! Lauren gained weight, her PFTs jumped 5 points, sounded great, x-ray looked great, and looks great! No changes to anything. Got bumped to “the 4 month plan” so I don’t see the team again until January!

My 9 month bronchoscopy will be Thursday September 29… Hard to believe we are closing in on 1 year.

The other excitement from the day: Lauren got her feeding tube out that was placed 5 years ago!! This was a big deal to have it removed. Another huge milestone.

Keep up the fight, Lauren! I have made a donation to your fund in memory of your Grandpa Jerry. I'm a friend of Kevin and Julie's and this is a great way to honor them, and you, during your time of grief. God Bless!
