My mom, Kelly Halsey, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) as a young wife and mother in 1988 and has bravely battled this disease for over twenty-seven years. MS is a chronic disease that attacks the nervous system, producing varying symptoms such as numbness of limbs, paralysis, and loss of vision. My mother’s MS is progressive, meaning that her symptoms do not lessen or subside but continuously worsen over time.
Since her diagnosis, my mom has fought MS with every means available. Doctors have prescribed a multitude of medications over the years, but these have done little to slow the disease’s progress. Kelly’s condition has steadily declined to a point where she is now barely able to walk and function.
Stemedix, Inc., an adult stem cell therapy center based in central Florida, provides a treatment that has shown promising results in people suffering with MS. The procedure involves harvesting the patient’s own stem cells, which are then enriched and re-introduced into the patient’s body. These cells can assist in regenerating missing or diseased tissue that would not ordinarily regrow (in this case, the coating around nerve fibers). Because of the relatively recent development of this treatment, it is not covered by health insurance. The cost of Kelly’s treatment and related travel expenses will be $15,000.
To help offset such expenses, a fundraising campaign in Kelly’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive. To make a tax-deductible donation, click Donate Now.
We ask that you prayerfully consider a contribution to help my mom. Please continue to visit this HelpHOPELive campaign page for updates and additional information. Thank you for your prayers, support and generosity.
With sincere gratitude,
Kent Halsey, Kelly’s son

To see you each week still doing what you love in spite of this illness makes me take a look at my own faith and want it to be stronger. Praying for this endeavor.
