$1,900+ Raised to Help Lynn Knutson After Life-Changing Brain Injury
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.—How often do you meet someone who loves to work? In the Scottsdale community, Lynn Knutson is that unique person. A sudden traumatic brain injury disrupted her life and health, but her loving community has raised nearly $2,000 with the nonprofit Help Hope Live to ensure Lynn has the resources she needs to get back to work and continue her recovery.
Lynn was working at a grocery store and delivering groceries for an older customer when the hatch from an SUV smashed down onto the top of her head. The resulting traumatic brain injury has impacted her speech, mobility, nervous system, vision, and health.
An outgoing, positive, and grateful person, Lynn engaged fully with her community. She gave her energy and talent to her work while making time to kayak, spend time with friends, and offer encouragement and positivity to others.
Lynn qualifies for SSDI based on the extensive effects of the brain injury. While these benefits help with basic quality of living, to make progress in her recovery and return to work, she needs more intensive and specialized treatment out of state in Chicago. That treatment and medical travel are not covered by insurance.
“Her out-of-pocket medical costs in 2022 were greater than her entire disability benefits for the year,” explained her son, Tyler. “She only eats because she qualifies for food stamps. Recovery is at a snail’s pace without financial help.”

The community has already raised over $1,900 to help lift the overwhelming burden of medical expenses and related costs.
“Although she has many struggles, she still focusing on all there is to be grateful for,” said Tyler. With the ability to cover travel to the Mind Eye Institute in Chicago and specialized treatment, Lynn’s future will look much brighter: “It gives Lynn so much hope.”
