FUNDRAISING FUELS HOPE FOR 10-YEAR-OLD LUIS AGUILAR
“He Has a Heart Full of Dreams”
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.—10-year-old Luis Aguilar is living with spinal muscular atrophy and relies on a wheelchair for mobility. He is bright, active, and full of heart. To enable a safe and active future for Luis, his community is fundraising for a critical medical need: a wheelchair accessible vehicle.
Luis is living with the rare genetic disorder spinal muscular atrophy or SMA. Luis relies on a wheelchair for mobility, but he remains extremely active and connected to his community.
“He loves being outside and going to school,” explained mom Mariah Rascon. “He has a heart full of dreams and a spirit that inspires everyone around him.”
To allow Luis to keep fully experiencing his world, his family needs to secure a safe accessible vehicle that can accommodate his wheelchair. However, insurance won’t cover the cost—despite its necessity to maintain Luis’s safe access to medical care.
That’s why his loving community has started a fundraising campaign with the trusted nonprofit Help Hope Live. Donations can be made at: https://helphopelive.org/campaign/24698/
“This is not just a vehicle,” Mariah explained. “It’s the chance to experience the world with more freedom, dignity, and joy. It’s doctor’s appointments, going to school, and enjoying the simple joys of life.”
If funds are raised beyond what Luis’s family needs to bring safe transportation within reach, donations will help to offset other critical medical and related expenses.
Unlike a GoFundMe campaign, donations to Help Hope Live are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law, and all funds raised will be managed by the nonprofit to cover verified medical and related expenses. Help Hope Live verifies medical and financial need for every patient.
Help Hope Live is a national nonprofit that specializes in engaging communities in secure, tax-deductible fundraising campaigns for people who need a transplant or are affected by a catastrophic injury or illness. Since 1983, campaigns organized by Help Hope Live have raised over $188 million to pay patient expenses. ###
