Angela Maples

“One of our moms saved our other mom…”
Our client Angela Maples is featured in multiple high-profile news stories that detail the fascinating story leading up to her kidney transplant. It’s a story of forgiveness, faith, and turning hopelessness into hope.
Angela’s husband, Joshua, was previously married to Amanda McCowen. For 10 years, the 2 women navigated the rocky and complicated landscape of co-parenting Joshua’s children.
Angela was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease in 2022 and began to face kidney failure. Pursuing dialysis 14 hours per day to stay alive, she and Joshua prepared for the urgent need for a kidney transplant to save Angela’s life.
That’s when Amanda stepped in. She was not only a match for Angela as a potential kidney donor – she was “a perfect match.”
Angela received a successful kidney transplant, and she, Amanda, and Joshua remain in close contact now as she heals. Joshua said:
“I knew it was God. There’s no other way to put it. It’s been a lot of healing and growth.”
Angela sees her story and medical challenges as an opportunity to inspire others:
“The goal for me is to restore hope to the hopeless.”
The story prompted one donor to Help Hope Live in Angela’s honor to leave this heartfelt message:
