Larry Trittschuh is 53 years old and suffers from congestive heart failure. After many tests, hospital visits and numerous treatments his doctors at Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City have told us that his only option is a life-saving heart transplant.
Larry grew up in Ohio, the “little baby brother” of sisters Lori and Lynne. His sister Lynne lives in Ohio and works as a Cardiac Research Nurse. She will be traveling to both Integris and our home to help care for him after surgery.
Larry traveled around the country working with music and sound tech on tour with his sister Lori. They have remained very close throughout their lives so when she moved to Kansas years back, naturally he ended up here too! He works in the aviation industry now. We met when he moved in next door to me about 8 years ago. We have a gorgeous 5 year old, Lily, who is nothing short of daddy’s girl. Larry has helped me raise my older daughter and has never been anything less than a second father to her. He is constantly there for our entire family and is truly one of the best people I have ever known.
We are very fortunate that one of the best heart transplant hospitals in the world is within a few hours’ drive of our home. However, even with insurance Larry is facing many expenses that must be paid out of pocket. Some of these are co-pays, deductibles, travel to and from the transplant center and relocation for a few months at the time of transplant. After his surgery he will need off-work recovery time, numerous medical follow up trips, and will be on very expensive anti-rejection medications for the rest of his life. This is where we need your help.
A fundraising campaign in his honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted non-profit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible and are held by HelpHOPELive in the Midwest/West Heart Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant related expenses only. My goal is to get Larry back to himself, full of life, wit and “wrestling matches” with Lily! Larry and I are so grateful for your ongoing, kindness, generosity, support and prayers. Thank you so much.
Kirsten
Good news....Larry received his new heart on October 17!
Thank you for everyone for your prayers and gifts. He is doing very well and happy to be back at work.
There are still trips back and forth to Oklahoma, doctor visits, blood test, and lots of medications to pay for, so he will continue to need as much support as we can give him.
