Fast forward to seven years post transplant and this incredible journey continues. In May of 2017, we knew the road wasn't going to be easy, however we tried our best to prepare for anything that was to come. Thankfully, we made it through the pandemic. But the challenges still remain and some that we have faced in the past two years are a result of being immune suppressed due to the transplant. Unfortunately, skin cancer has been prominent and has resulted in multiple surgeries and treatment, that included proton therapy and chemotherapy. We have very skilled, proactive teams of physicians and surgeons at Duke, Sloan Kettering, and Yale that have all worked together to lead us to the best possible outcome. As of April of 2024, I am cancer free! Frequent doctor visits, PET scans, CT scans, bronchoscopies, and pulmonary function tests are all part of the road I have to follow. At times it's overwhelming, but I know I have to stay the course that leads my fight to better health. Now, here comes the happiness in our lives! We have welcomed two daughters in law officially into our family - both of whom have been with us through this whole journey. Christopher and Emily were married in August of 2020, and Brad and Natalie were married in August of 2023. We couldn't be happier to be blessed with the love and support of both girls. In May of this year, we became grandparents! We welcomed our beautiful grandson Cole! Babies just seem to make the world right! We want to continue to thank everyone for their love and support and all the ways our family and friends lift us up every day. We are blessed!

WOW!

3 years post transplant is a reason to celebrate but everyday is a celebration! The highs have totally outweighed the lows by far! God is awesome! As we travel through life upon our journey we’ve encountered so many amazing people - my fellow transplantees, the surgical team, doctors, PA’s, nurses & medical staff.

I pray for Rowan’s (my donor) family that they find comfort in knowing that I’m doing all I can to stay healthy and care for his gift!

Thank you to Kathy, Chris & Brad, our family & Friends for your endless love, support & prayers!

I hope all of you can stay Happy & Healthy in these crazy times!
