Sam Needs Your Help

John Milliron, better known as “Sam” to family and friends, has worked very hard his whole life to support his family, and after many years of helping others, the time has come to help him and his family. Sam is currently waiting in UPMC Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh, PA for a life-saving heart transplant.

Sam did not get the heart transplant he was hoping for but, got a LVAD (heart pump) implanted today. He is doing well and has a long recovery ahead. They just removed his breathing tube around 7pm. Nancy and the kids were able to speak with him before he rested for the night. So far everything has went as planned (no complications during surgery and all of his tests are good). He is in the CT-ICU at UPMC Presbyterian. Please remember to donate using this campaign page. Thank you.

Things change…
Sam has been in the ICU since Oct. 3, 2018. His and the family’s expectation was the wait for a heart could be a long one but, everyone thought the wait would end with a donated heart for transplant. However, miracles (and life for that matter) don’t always follow expectations. The doctors informed us that it might be time to consider plan B – a heart pump (LVAD). Sam’s heart health is stable now but, if we wait too long, there is a risk that his health could decline and Sam would miss a window that would allow for either the transplant or the heart pump to be a viable option. Sam and the family are still praying for a heart donor before Oct. 17th. If not, Sam has decided to follow the doctors’ recommendation and have surgery to install a heart pump on the morning of Oct. 17th. The heart pump will help him and after a successful recovery, he may be able to have a transplant later, as he will still be listed on the national registry for transplant.
