I was transplanted with my first kidney on March 22, 2005 with a live donor kidney from my loving sister, which I can’t express my gratitude enough. Unfortunately that kidney has not lasted as long as we had hoped. I now have to start fundraising again due to my need for another kidney. They will be putting me on the transplant waiting list which has a wait time of 2 to 3 years for a cadaver kidney.
They told me to start looking for another live kidney donor, if possible. If you would like to get tested to see if you could donate to me or to another person, you can contact Sara Parker, RN, BSN, CCRN, Living Kidney Coordinator at 800-277-8687 or burbages@musc.edu. FYI, if you want to donate a kidney to me and don’t match my criteria, they now have a kidney swap program in place for your consideration.
I will have some fundraisers in the near future, so please check back here often or visit my facebook page facebook/MedicMike814. You can also contact me at 803-464-5209 or MedicMike814@yahoo.com

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all who have helped in one way or another or will help in the future!!!! I have been very blessed with all my loving family, friends, and total strangers’ kindness. Thank you for your support!
Deeply Grateful,
Michael Barnes
I'm again after 5 years on the list and 4 years on dialysis have been fortunate enough to have been transplanted for a second time and final time. I received my 2nd kidney transplant Feb. 21, 2020 at University Hospital in Augusta, GA. Thank you for all the thoughts and prayers. Kidney was a bit sleepy but has finally kicked in.
Hey everyone, some Great news!!!
As of 12/21/2014 I have been placed on the kidney transplant lists. So that was a nice surprise for Christmas.
Not sure on wait time because I'm not on dialysis yet which we are trying to get all we can out of this kidney and be transplanted before having to go on dialysis.
A lot of different factors this go around. Will keep everyone updated when I get info.
Thanks for your continued support. Michael
Just an update as of 08/24/2014
As of today I'm still not on kidney transplant list. All my testing for it is done. Just don't know what the hold up is. Anyways my Creatine is at 3.7 now which is a bit higher. Taking it day by day and praying things will work out for the better soon.
Aug 02, 2014 Update:
I went Monday July 28th for my final test to be put on the Kidney transplant list again. They have fiddle farted around before giving me the list of other tests they needed, so after I was suppose to be on it in Jan. It's taken them 6 months so far. Not sure if on list yet but should be shortly.
If you could please continue to pray for my family and I, we would appreciate it very much.
Thank you for the support and prayers so far.
Have posted this web site and live kidney donor info on my facebook page. Facebook.com/michaelbarnes29153
Ok, let's see if this will work. We went down to MUSC in Charleston, SC on Monday Feb.10, 2014 for unknown reason? Got down there and found out that the days visit was a primary work up for another kidney transplant. Went through whole process all over again for a new kidney. Cadaver kidney has a wait list of 2 to 3 years. They are going to get me on the list as soon as possible They told us to start looking for a live donor if possible. Apparently my kidney function is down to 20% now. Not sure how long that will last.
They are trying to be proactive with me so I'm thankful for that! Don't know if I will need dialysis or not yet, they are trying to get me another kidney before that happens hopefully.
As I get further info, I will pass it along via this site or facebook. facebook/MedicMike814
Transplanted kidney failing and is at 20% function right now 02/18/2014. Going back on transplant list soon. Had my workup on Monday Feb 10, 2014 for that.
