In the wee hours of Labor Day morning, Jane had a double lung transplant at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). We are relieved and feel immensely blessed that this event occurred when it did. Many times people in need of transplants wait a long time for donor organs to become available and often they do not become available in time. We are relieved and grateful that in another family’s time of grief and sorrow, this incredible gift was made available to Jane.
Blessings often come with challenges, and Jane faces great difficulty in meeting her challenges. Although she has health insurance, it will not cover all her expenses. She will need to live in Pittsburgh for three to six months after being discharged from the hospital. She will need to receive immunosuppressive drugs each and every day, receive intensive medical care, and make frequent return visits to UPMC. She may or may not be able to return to work. She will need help from her family, friends and community in order to survive and thrive in the face of all these future realities.
Jane was a customer services representative for Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield in Parkersburg, WV. With the exception of a few years away to attend West Virginia University in Morgantown, she has been a life-long resident of the mid-Ohio Valley. A 1982 graduate of St. Marys High School in St. Marys, WV. active in Baptist churches, a tour guide in the area, a former employee at the Becky Thatcher Showboat in Marietta, OH, and an avid crafter, Jane was forced to curtail her activities and stop working this past winter.
To help Jane meet these expenses, a fundraising campaign has been established in her honor with HelpHOPELive (formerly NTAF). HelpHOPELive is a nonprofit organization that has assisted the transplant community for nearly 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible and are administered for transplant expenses only. Please consider helping Jane by sending a donation.Gifts of appreciated securities can be arranged by contacting HelpHOPELive at 800.642.8399.

Your financial gifts as well as your prayers will make a tremendous difference in Jane’s future.
