My mother has been happily married for 28 years and has two children that she is very proud of. She has also been involved in animal rescues for several years. It is her hope to have the time and good health to continue being a wife, mother (and future grandmother), and give back to her community.
My mom is currently being cared for by a team of doctors at Lehigh Valley Hospital. Despite having medical insurance through my father’s employer, there are still an extraordinary amount of uninsured transplant-related expenses such as: co-pays and deductibles, doctor visits and the costly imnmnunosuppressamt medications that mom will need to take for the rest of her life. Unfortunately, these are expenses that we cannot meet on our own.
To help with these uninsured costs, a fundraising campaign Donna’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for more than 30 years. All contributions are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Mid-Atlantic Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. You can help make a difference in my mother’s life. Please consider making a contribution today by clicking the DONATE NOW button.
Together we can make a difference by assisting Donna during this difficult time. Thank you in advance for your generous help and support.
Best Wishes,

As some of you know I have been in the hospital lately and am going through some treatments, taking care of my kidney is my top priority and a lifelong issue. My kidney function is good but it needs a little help to stay that way. there is no better gift than the gift of health.
New Year, new changes! Some positive news is that Mom had her transplant and despite a few bumps in the road, she is doing well. Some of those bumps include rejection issues that required several expensive IV treatments and biopsies, and testing along with insurance changes. A transplant isn't a cure and requires a lifetime of care which includes these tests and a lot of daily medications and regular check ups with a number of doctors. It's our goal to keep this gift we've been given working well and for it to last as long as possible and to live fully-in order to do that, we need some help. As you can imagine, the cost of all of these treatments is mounting and will only continue to grow over time. We are grateful for your support and kind messages but ask that you remember that even though my mom has had the blessing of a transplant we still need your generous help to maintain that gift. Any amount is helpful and appreciated. Thank you for allowing her to live a full and healthy life! We have added some photos to her album to see how well she is doing thanks to all of your help.
I just want to update that my mom Donna got her much needed kidney transplant this past Thursday November 13, 2014. Due to the sudden nature of this miracle, we were not able to reach our fundraising goal yet. With the cost of anti-rejection medications and the loss of income for my family and I to miss work to help my mother in recovery, we are asking for your help. Any little bit helps and if you can't afford to give, we understand but ask that you keep her in your hopes and prayers and consider registering to be an organ donor. Thank you all for your support!

Everything is happening so fast it seems unreal, My kidney function is declining quicker than I ever expected. The calls to get tested for computability are coming in now. I am so lucky to have such wonderful support from friends family and people that I barely know. I am touched by each and everyone's messages, whether or not you could donate, thank you for sharing my message and your prayers. Any ideas are welcome for fundraising events, and please keep sharing and I will keep pushing through everyday with your support in my heart.
Things are happening fast, my kidney function is going down faster than expected. I am applying for additional medical insurance to cover anti-rejection medications that I will need to take care of my new kidney for the rest of my life. That being said, there are still co-pays and other expenses I will face. As many of you know, I have been trying to prepare for this for the last couple of years and have made some progress. I am trying for a 3rd fistula on August 7th, this is a more difficult surgery and may still fail. I am sorry to say I just got my first call for a possible donor and had to turn it down, my reasoning -- I still am not financially ready for the additional initial costs. I could not take away someone else's chance at life and then not be able to care for my own new gift. It might not have been a good match anyway -- I will never know. But I still need your help. Please pray and share this message and I know we can get there.
Dearest Donna, Mark and I just read of your illness and will pray for you and the family as you go through this. We know how strong and determine you are. Our pathes crossed for a reason and as you know God has a season for everything in our lives. Hopefully we come to grow and have learned from past disgressions, ask for forgiveness, and give God the glory.
With Respect, Debbie Tornquist
