Mark has been battling diabetes since 1994. Two years ago, he was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and underwent a full thyroid removal which thankfully took care of the cancer. He continued to struggle with health issues until he was finally diagnosed with kidney failure in November of 2013. With the start of kidney dialysis he has lost over 100 pounds and his overall health has greatly improved. Mark is now completely dependent on dialysis which he undergoes three times a week at the Moses Dialysis Unit in St. Ignace. However, this clinic will soon be closing. This means that unless he gets a kidney transplant, Mark’s closest option for dialysis will be 50 + miles from home. Mark’s only chance to return to good health and his everyday activities is receiving a kidney transplant.

A kidney transplant could be life-saving, but is very expensive. Even with insurance, Mark is still facing monumental medical expenses covering transportation, temporary re-location, post-transplant medications and more adding up to more than he can handle alone. Mark is also still seeking a kidney donor. A donor’s medical expenses will be covered by Mark’s insurances leaving only transportation costs that can potentially be covered by your donations.
