We are writing to you about Johnny Carelock. He is a 62 year old father who was diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) after a prolonged history of chronic emphysema and bronchitis. Johnny had only 15% lung function and it was determined that he will need a lung transplant to provide him a chance of a prolonged life. To be able to get on the transplant list Johnny needed an initial amount of $15,000+ to be eligible to be added to the list. He raised $10,000 of this money and HelpHOPELive granted him $1,000 .
Johnny has always been a hardworking citizen and worked for the North Carolina Department of Transportation for 28 years. When his health began to decline he was laid off by his most recent employer McCollum Paving, Inc. This resulted in termination of his health insurance and benefits. Fortunately he was able to secure Medicare. However has many additional uninsured expenses such as temporary relocation for six months to be near UNC Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC as well as prescription co-pays. He is currently staying at the SECU Family House, Chapel Hill, NC.
To help defray these expenses, a fundraising campaign in Johnny’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for over 30 years. All donations are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the South-Atlantic Lung Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Your financial gifts will help Johnny through this difficult time.
Warm Regards,
Timeka Carelock (daughter) and Family
My father had his double lung transplant on September 26, 2016 a day before his birthday. He is doing well after receiving his transplant only two weeks ago. He can definitely use continued financial support due to the extreme expenses of medicines, lodging, transportation, meals and personal care. If God lead you to this page, I pray that you will be a blessing to my father. Any amount is a blessing! I thank you in advance! God Bless you!
