She wrote the literal book on caregiving. Now her own care is priced out of reach.

“Family members quit their jobs to care for their loved ones. People lose their homes and their dignity. This is unacceptable.”

Health care reporter and author of The Florida Caregivers Handbook Creston Nelson was diagnosed with ALS in January 2025. Prior to her own diagnosis, Creston was already well aware of the burden of a medical crisis on not just individuals but their families.

Her own medical costs, including 24-hour caregiving, have soared to over $20,000 per month.

That’s why her family has turned to Help Hope Live for medical fundraising. So far, the campaign has raised $13,000 towards the initial $150,000 goal.

“She continues to embrace life and enjoy time with family and friends and work, albeit on an abbreviated schedule.”
