We were excited to see our client Scott Anthony Hughes featured in his local news. Scott is a 36-year-old gamer, Star Wars fan, and furbaby dad living with spina bifida.
As he has grown older, Scott has become unable to safely transfer himself and his mobility equipment into a standard vehicle. That’s why he turned to Help Hope Live to start fundraising for an accessible van.
He’s currently reliant on others to help him make it to appointments. Local transport can be hit-or-miss, and inclement weather adds additional challenges.
Having a reliable van would mean being able to make these appointments consistently, get to work without assistance, and enjoy simple, everyday gatherings and moments. But cost is a prohibitive factor: “Vans run anywhere from $30,000 to $90,000. Used ones are $30,000 to $60,000.”
Why Help Hope Live for fundraising? As he explains:
“They help people that are unable to afford the medical things that they need that aren’t covered by insurance. All the funds go to them, and then whatever funds that I need, like the wheelchair accessible van, once I get enough donations, they will purchase the said item for me, so none of the money comes directly to me, so it doesn’t mess with my Medicaid or my social security.”
