$1,000 RAISED TO HELP GREENSBORO STROKE SURVIVOR
Angel Becton “Continues to Choose Hope, Faith, and Gratitude”
GREENSBORO, N.C.—Angel Becton experienced her first stroke before turning 40. Now 51, she’s endured more medical hardships than many people experience over a lifetime. A shining light of faith to those around her, Angel is now in need of help from the community to fund medical care following the loss of her Medicaid in 2025.
Angel first experienced a series of strokes in 2014. She committed to therapy, worked hard in recovery, and managed to return to working and living independently.
However, in 2018, Angel suffered a major heart attack, requiring triple bypass surgery. During surgery, she experienced a major stroke, leaving her unable to speak for 2 years. Angel fought her way back once again, regaining her strength and slowly regaining her voice.
In 2023, Angel experienced a devastating stroke that left her paralyzed on her left side. Today, she is largely wheelchair-dependent and requires assistance with nearly all daily activities.
While Angel first lived in the Greensboro area 20 years ago and moved away, she settled here in 2023 to finally call the area her permanent home.
Over the course of her medical hardships, Angel has remained a true light to those around her. She loves Jesus and celebrates each step forward as she continues to choose hope, faith, and gratitude daily.
That hope was put to the test in September 2025 when Angel lost her Medicaid benefits. As a result, she became solely dependent on disability income, which does not cover the cost of the personal aide services that she relies on to stay healthy.
Looking for solutions to help Angel secure the care she needed, a patient advocate found the national nonprofit Help Hope Live for trusted medical fundraising. In just 1 month, the campaign in Angel’s honor has raised $1,000.
Reaching the $10,000 fundraising goal will mean a full year of support for Angel’s personal aide needs—a life-changing improvement.
Working with Help Hope Live helps to ensure Angel’s disability benefits are protected: unlike a GoFundMe campaign, donations to Help Hope Live are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law, and all funds raised will be administered by the nonprofit to cover verified medical and related expenses.
Help Hope Live verifies medical and financial need for every patient.
Help Hope Live is a national nonprofit that specializes in engaging communities in secure, tax-deductible fundraising campaigns for people who need a transplant or are affected by a catastrophic injury or illness. Since 1983, campaigns organized by Help Hope Live have raised over $194 million to pay patient expenses, assisting more than 25,000 patient families. ###
