“It was a pretty scary situation. Me and four kids in the vehicle, trying to make our way back home, and waters up to my knee and above my son’s waist.”

On April 26, Melianie Babb and her 4 young children were forced to evacuate their home in their wheelchair accessible van due to tornado warnings. In the process, they hit a flash flood.

While the family escaped safely, their van was totaled in the flood, and insurance won’t cover the total cost of an accessible van.

Born by emergency C-section, Kaylee Angelica Babb spent her first 158 days in the hospital. Now 3 years old, she is living with partial trisomy 2Q, a rare genetic disorder that leads to deafness, vision issues, a feeding tube, and surgeries.

“Kaylee has the biggest smile and is a happy child. She is learning to use sign language to communicate. She can say MAMA.”

Living on disability herself with 2 children with disabilities, Melianie knew that working with GoFundMe could jeopardize her family’s eligibility for asset-based assistance. That’s why she turned instead to Help Hope Live.

Reaching their fundraising goal with Help Hope Live will allow Melianie and family to keep Kaylee smiling as they continue to access monthly visits to medical specialists and therapies as well as nourishing time in the community.

“We have had so many different community members reach out, donate and just pray over us, which has been such an amazing blessing.”
