COMMUNITY RALLYING TO HELP 14-YEAR-OLD WITH DISABILITIES
Wheelchair Van and Home Modifications Will Unlock Freedom for Elly
TWIN LAKE, Mich.—The loving community of 14-year-old EllyAnnah Camielle Welch are coming together to help fund life-changing needs. Living with the rare diagnosis Prader-Willi Syndrome, Elly needs a wheelchair van and home accessibility to continue to not just survive but thrive. Funds raised will be managed by the trusted medical fundraising nonprofit Help Hope Live.
Like so many other 14-year-olds, Elly loves music and dancing and dreams of enjoying vacations and outdoor adventures. Unlike her peers, Elly is living with a rare and complex genetic disorder that impacts her physically, emotionally, and socially. She uses a wheelchair to navigate her world.
Elly’s family wants to empower their loving teen to have as much access and independence as possible, from playing outside to visiting her sister in Nebraska. Routine medical and therapy visits are also necessities to keep Elly safe.
However, accessibility is standing in the way. Insurance won’t cover the cost of a wheelchair van or home modifications to enable Elly to navigate her own home.
“As she grows into her teen years, her needs are changing,” explained mom Jennifer Richards. “The only vehicle we had is no longer roadworthy. At home, lack of accessibility makes everyday tasks not only hard but dangerous.”
That’s why Elly’s community has started a fundraising campaign with the nonprofit Help Hope Live. Tax-deductible donations can be made at: https://helphopelive.org/campaign/25624/
“This isn’t just about accessibility,” shared Jennifer on Elly’s fundraising page. “It’s about giving our daughter a life where she can thrive, not just survive.”
Unlike a GoFundMe campaign, donations to Help Hope Live are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law, and all funds raised will be administered by the nonprofit to cover verified medical and related expenses. Help Hope Live verifies medical and financial need for every patient.
Help Hope Live is a national nonprofit that specializes in engaging communities in secure, tax-deductible fundraising campaigns for people who need a transplant or are affected by a catastrophic injury or illness. Since 1983, campaigns organized by Help Hope Live have raised over $188 million to pay patient expenses. ###
