Fundraiser to help Perry County woman buy handicap accessible van for special needs daughter

Elana Smith

“It really moves me that people are so awesome in a world that has been so harsh to everybody.”

Single mom Carmen Smith is doing her best to help her 14-year-old daughter with cerebral palsy, Elana, to stay mobile. She must lift Elana in and out of her van – a task that is getting increasingly challenging as her daughter gets older.

The Smith family is fundraising with Help Hope Live to get Elana an accessible van that can fully accommodate her needs. Recent press coverage helped to catapult the fundraising campaign up to $10,000 raised towards the $30,000 goal.

“This would be like a huge blessing for us to be able to get out safely and to be able to have more adventures together as a family.”
