July is Disability Pride Month, and July 26 also marked a notable milestone: the 34th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Two Groundbreaking Transplant Milestones
Our nonprofit has a close connection to transplant technology: our founder was a pioneering heart transplant surgeon.
He and his wife, a nurse, founded Help Hope Live to bring hope and financial help to heart transplant candidates who couldn’t afford the gift of life without assistance.
That’s why we were particularly moved by two groundbreaking milestones in transplant technology that personally impacted two Help Hope Live families this year.

In Arizona, our client Marty Kedian became one of less than five people in the United States to receive a larynx transplant.
The landmark procedure didn’t just improve his health. From breathing normally to talking to his granddaughter in own voice, the transplant restored Marty’s voice—a voice he plans to use to bring hope to the thousands of other patients living with the devastating effects of laryngeal cancer.

In Michigan, our client Kenneth Ray Miller received a first-in-state beating-heart transplant and a kidney transplant this year.
With only 70 beating-heart transplants performed so far, this life-changing technology is a new source of hope for patients like Ken that not only increases the range of donor heart viability but also reduces the likelihood of post-transplant complications.
