Color of Hockey: Team IMPACT connects kids with disabilities to college game

“Sometimes you just have to look at the good things in life.”

Our 9-year-old client Adrian Diaz is spending a third season with the University of Massachusetts men’s hockey team through the nonprofit Team IMPACT.

Adrian is living with spinal muscular atrophy. He’s an adaptive athlete and sports fan who attends UMass games and has a history of connection with hockey: his grandfather played for the NHL, and his aunt played for the National Women’s Hockey League and went on to become an assistant coach and scout.

If you think Adrian is afraid to get touch when motivating and encouraging the UMass team to do their best, think again.

“He literally rolled into the gym and started screaming at them.”

In 2020, thanks to his grandfather’s suggestion, Adrian received a customized adaptive bike through our Every Child Deserves a Bike partnership with the Flyers Alumni Association.

“I use it all the time. I’m very lucky.”
