FUNDRAISING TO HELP CANCER SURVIVOR LIVE & THRIVE
“In Spite of All Her Struggles, She Has a Heart of Gold.”
SPOKANE, Wash.—For 69-year-old Deborah Hyden, giving up has never been an option. Though her life has been full of tragedies and medical battles, including brain cancer, Deborah has defied every prognosis and maintained her heart of gold. Her loving community is helping her to care for her health and keep fighting through a verified medical fundraising campaign with the nonprofit Help Hope Live.
Deborah’s medical challenges began in 2017 with a routine hip replacement surgery. While she was recovering, what appeared to be a stroke led her medical team to make a shocking diagnosis: brain cancer. They gave Deborah just one to three months to live.
After multiple rounds of chemo and a stem cell transplant, Deborah defied the odds. She has been cancer-free for seven years. However, her medical challenges haven’t ended since 2017. She has had to contend with a cracked hip, a blood clot, RSV, shingles, and other life-disrupting diagnoses during her cancer recovery.
Since 2023, Deborah has been bedbound. She can unlock a brighter, healthier, and more mobile future with a reliable wheelchair, home modifications, and an accessible van, but insurance won’t cover the costs.
That’s why her partner Steve and her loving community have started a fundraising campaign with the national nonprofit Help Hope Live. Tax-deductible donations can be made at: https://helphopelive.org/campaign/23839/
Though her past has been steeped in tragedy, including the loss of all her siblings and her former fiancé, “she has spent her life giving to others,” explained Steve. “She truly has a heart of gold.”
Funds raised through Help Hope Live will make it possible for Deborah and her “heart of gold” to make it through her golden years in safety and comfort, accessing simple everyday tasks and pleasures, including pursuing follow-up medical care and taking a shower.
Unlike a GoFundMe campaign, donations to Help Hope Live are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law, and all funds raised will be administered by the nonprofit to cover verified medical and related expenses. Help Hope Live verifies medical and financial need for every patient.
Help Hope Live is a national nonprofit that specializes in engaging communities in secure, tax-deductible fundraising campaigns for people who need a transplant or are affected by a catastrophic injury or illness. Since 1983, campaigns organized by Help Hope Live have raised over $188 million to pay patient expenses. ###
