Awaiting a call that could save his life, Texoma man’s spirits never waver: Marcus Marrs

A decorative newsprint graphic.

Marcus Marrs

In his mid-30s, Marcus Marrs went from being able to run 5 miles on a lunch break to being unable to run 300 yards without a break.

When he discussed his symptoms with his doctor, he was shocked by what he heard: heart surgery would be in his future.

Now 69, Marcus is on the waiting list for a heart transplant. He faces the uncertainty of his circumstances with faith, but the road to transplant has still put a good portion of his life on hold.

Marcus must remain within 4 hours of his transplant center in case he gets “the call” that a donor heart is available. He can’t even visit his children or grandchildren due to the need to stay close and wait.

After he gets his miracle, the road ahead will still require putting a pause on ordinary living: he will need to stop working for 6 months, and his wife will need to serve as his caregiver during his recovery.

Marcus has been fundraising with Help Hope Live since December 2025. His community has raised over $17,600 in his honor in 5 months.

“I’m a Christian…Either I get my heart and be healthy for another several years, or I don’t get my heart, end up passing away. I’m a winner either way.”
