An Adaptive Bike for Sylvan

We are excited to announce that our client Sylvan DeSocio will receive a customized adaptive bike through our Every Child Deserves a Bike partnership with the Philadelphia Flyers Alumni Association this summer.

On Monday, June 23, Sylvan and his family will be present to receive their big surprise during the annual Flyers Alumni Golf Invitational at DuPont Country Club in Delaware.

“We are grateful for him and how he adds to our family. He has drawn us closer to each other and helped us to slow down and be present with each other and in the world.”

Born in 2018, Sylvan was diagnosed with polyimicrogyria or PMG, a diagnosis that has a similar impact as cerebral palsy. Sylvan’s secondary diagnosis, DiGeorge Syndrome, affects his hearing and heart.

The 6-year-old will need assistance with care, eating, moving, and playing for the rest of his life.

In November 2024, fundraising with Help Hope Live brought an accessible van within reach for Sylvan’s family.

Update from the fundraising page of 6-year-old Sylvan DeSocio from November 29, 2024 shares that fundraising has made an accessible van purchase happen. Mom of 6-year-old Sylvan DeSocio with his brother and sister in a large white adaptive van from MobilityWorks.

While life-changing as a means to access fresh air, therapeutic exercise, and community connections, adaptive bikes are often financially out of reach for families.

As Sylvan’s family continues to fundraise with Help Hope Live to meet key needs, we hope this adaptive bike giveaway will bring joy to his life and give him a chance to enjoy more quality time with his family and community.
